Madonna del Boden Sanctuary

From Lake Maggiore to one of the Ossola Valley's most charming sanctuaries

This scenic cycling route takes you from the shores of Lake Maggiore to the beautiful Madonna del Boden Sanctuary, surrounded by woodland at the foot of the Ossola mountains. Combining cycle paths, quiet country roads and riverside trails, it is an ideal ride for cyclists who enjoy both nature and cultural heritage.

Route Description

Starting in Stresa, follow the lakeside road through Baveno and Feriolo until you reach Fondotoce, where the dedicated cycle path begins within the Fondotoce Nature Reserve.

Continue along the cycle path to the charming village of Mergozzo, on the shores of Lake Mergozzo. From the village centre, follow the signs towards the sports ground before joining the riverside trail alongside the Toce River.

After a pleasant ride through woodland and open countryside, you will arrive in Ornavasso. From here, a short climb leads to the Madonna del Boden Sanctuary, one of the most picturesque religious sites in the Ossola Valleys, set in a peaceful natural landscape.

After your visit, return to Ornavasso and continue towards Gravellona Toce. Shortly after passing beneath the motorway, turn onto the riverside cycle path that follows the Toce River back to Feriolo, before completing the final stretch along the lakeside road to Stresa.
